The planetary health weather stations project started in 2012 with schools building their own weather stations which would enable them to collect qualitative data on the weather in a standardised and comparable way. The data was integrated into community based, engaged and distributed learning and long-term projects that aim to protect and restore local ecosystems.
The Wanakha Central School in Paro Bhutan was one of the first schools to complete their weather station and integrate it into learning about aspects of planetary health with a focus on maintaining the safely and securing of local water resources and actively participating in local water management (SDG 6b)
The Zero Water Day Partnership ‘Water Walk’ follows the path of water from mountains to the ocean > oceans > polar regions.
Gunnison Middle and High School in Colorado USA have been very active in creating their own local community water walk, see the schools webpage for more information.
