Ice 2 Ice Initiative 2025 - 2035
International Year of Glaciers Preservation Launch
ZWDP launched the Ice 2 Ice (I2I) initiative as a key contribution to the UN International Year of Glacier Preservation and the UN Decade of Action for Cryospehric Sciences.
Ice 2 Ice links the water towers of the world (mountains) through streams, rivers and lakes, to seas and oceans the the polar regions. It provides the education and action plan component of the ZWDP Saving the Worlds Water Towers campaign.
A key catalyst for I2I initiative was the project week at the Moser School in Switzerland in March 2025, which helped pilot the approach and content for schools.
The 10 sections of Ice 2 Ice form part of the Water Towers Ambassadors Programme (Education for Sustainable Mountain Development and Global Citizenship Education).
For 2026 ZWDP is developing 2 eBooks, one aimed at schools, the other for the public.
The planetary health weather station, water walks, and 3D relief models are elements of the I2I action plan.

The Ice 2 Ice logo symbolises;
> Mountains as water towers of the world (Earth Systems)
> Freshwater as one of the non planetary health boundaries (Planetary and Human Systems)
> Drops of water that are essential for peoples lives and livelihoods (Human Systems and Human Health)
