Planetary Health Weather Station; the story so far
The main element is the Kunak Air Pro station which is positioned 3 – 4 metres above the ground with wind gauge and sound device.
We have worked on a modular base and pole, which still needs some further refinement. One idea we are working on is to have the solar panel separate to reduce weight and improve balance, and also allow more flexibility in orientating to the sun.
It all fits into a Black Diamond haul sac ! and in the bike trailer, see images below.
Next step will be to work on stabilisation and easy for assembly in outdoor / mountain setting. This will be in the Deister mountains and Harz mountains of northern Germany over the next 2 months.
In the short term we aim to have the PHWS complete by June 5th week for the launch of the Ice2Ice Initiative – thank you Moser School !
Later this year, the plan is to have a tested and functional PHWS to take to Chamonix Mont Blanc in the French Alps for the autumn.
First complete mobile < planetary health weather station > assembled along with water water sign and data point. .
Mountains are the water towers of the world and can be viewed as a ‘global zero water day’. The planetary health weather station is part of ZWDP contribution to the UN Decade of Action for Cyrospheric Sciences 2025 – 2034.
ZWDP network schools such as Sant’Anatolia di Narco in Italy are particpating the Ice 2 Ice Initiative.
Plans are to take the PWHS to the mountains around the school in the late autumn.
The planetary health weather station us designed to be modular to allow for it to be transported by bike / train to various locations.

Planetary Health Weather Station, Wanakha Central School, Bhutan
Wanakha Central School, Bhutan was the first ZWDP partner school to build a planetary health weather station.
The PHWS are linked to 3D relief maps to enable data and information to be mapped to help visualise the local natural and built environments.
PHWS use the 17 Sustainable Development Goals to map data points (qualitative and quantitative ) to illustrate the interconnectedness and interdependence (measure and understand) of the planetary and human health.
